Original caption (cropped out): Native water carriers in Iloilo

Description (cropped out):

In the Philippine Islands, as in all other countries of the Orient, it is customary for the natives to carry their drinking water from public wells. More than three thousand years ago Moses met his future wife at the well. The servants of Abraham made the bargain with Rebecca to marry Isaac at the well. Christ met the woman of Samaria at Jacob's well. The women and the children of the East still keep up the ancient custom, in semi-savage as well as civilized lands.
