| Pastabos | Eckersberg spent two weeks aboard the Najaden in 1833 and never forgot her. His biographer Emil Hannover noted, that like painters who repeatedly portrayed the woman they loved, Eckersberg kept returning to the Najaden. For 110 years, the Museum had two of these Najaden paintings mixed up, due to a misunderstanding when the collection was registered in 1908. In all those years, this painting has been labeled as the "Najaden in the Sound Awaiting the Frigate Bellona" from 1835 (with Eckersberg aboard the Bellona), when it is in fact "the Corvette Najaden under Sail" from the previous year. The Bellona painting is at the Hirschspung Collection and has other dimensions, while this one was sold to the merchant Hage, who founded the Nivaagaard Collection - and there is no Bellona to be seen in it. The position and sails of the Najaden is exactly the same in both paintings. The Nivaagaard Museum was notified of the error when this upload was done in January 2018, and by January 25 2018 the webpage has been changed to reflect the correct title. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||
